Proof of Play launches second chain Boss this week
Blockchain game developer Proof of Play announced today that it is launching Boss Chain, a second chain that supports growth and horizontal scalability. Boss will support Apex, Proof of Play’s primary chain, which recently reached is maximum capacity. The addition of a secondary chain means that the game can continue scaling. Boss Chain launches later this week.
According to Proof of Play, Boss is the first of multiple chains coming to support Apex, the better to process multiple transactions at once and support the studio’s flagship title, Pirate Nation. Apex currently processes 2.5 million transactions a day, and Proof of Play plans to expand further with its multichain vision. According to the studio, it plans to support interconnected chains, each one optimized for onchain gaming.
Amitt Mahajan, Proof of Play’s founder and CEO, said in a statement, “To scale to any significant number of users, transactions need to be distributed across multiple chains using the blockchain as an advanced database. During my time developing Farmville, we had to manage around 64 databases to support 30 million daily active users and prevent the game from crashing. This is why Proof of Play is building the multichain—to store data and ensure seamless scalability. This technology is bigger than gaming; horizontal scaling is needed for any highly ambitious application with a large volume of onchain compute, such as new types of social or other consumer [decentralized apps].”
Boss will support market interoperability, meaning players on different chains can trade with each other. Users can sign up to migrate to Boss now, with Proof of Play offering exclusive skins and an achievement for those who do.
